Over the past month, our library has been buzzing with learning! Students explored book genres—spotlighting Adventure, Biography, and Folktales—and we paired read‑alouds with short films to reinforce the key features of each. We also hosted a very successful December book fair that raised funds to refresh our shelves and supplies; thanks to your support, we’ve already added new books and stocked up on essentials like bookmarks, markers, and tape. Origami has been an ongoing hit, and students are building confidence listening skills with new folds on occasion..
Looking ahead, we’ll begin exploring the district‑adopted SchoolAI program with students in February, and we’ll continue expanding our origami skills and projects. Instead of another book fair, we’re planning a Spring Book Swap—more details to come as we get closer. Thanks for supporting our readers and our library!

28 Days of Kindness Challenge

In February, Highlands Elementary School will be participating in our 28 Days of Kindness Challenge.
Please refer to the calendar above for daily kindness activities. Each day, students will have the opportunity to perform a kind deed. The days highlighted in pink are activities that are meant to be completed at home.
We encourage families to take some time throughout the month to talk with their students about the kind things they did during the school week. These conversations help reinforce the importance of kindness at school and at home.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us build a caring and compassionate school community.

Thank you in advance for making your child’s conference a priority. Below is important information about signing up for the Highlands Elementary conferences
Conference Dates: Conferences at Highlands Elementary will be taking place on February 3rd, February 5th and 11th.
- Sign-Up Date: Registration for conferences will open on Monday, January 19th after 8am.
- Meet The Teacher sign up link (live on Monday, January 19th at 8am). and Meet the Teacher directions.
- Primary Contact in Infinite Campus (IC): Highlands Elementary has chosen to use the primary contact one that families have set up in the Infinite Campus system to receive conference notifications. This is done to reduce duplicate conferences and encourage families to attend together whenever possible.
- Priority Contact Selection: If no specific priority contact was chosen in Infinite Campus, the notification may be sent to either spouse.
- Data Matching: Parents are required to enter information that matches what is recorded in the Infinite Campus system.
- Student Information: Parents will also need to provide their child’s first and last name along with the student ID. The student ID can be found in the IC Parent Portal. Most students know their ID as it is commonly used as their iPad password and lunch number.

We are excited to host another school-wide collection event to support our community by collecting a variety of brand-new, manufactured items for the Children’s Hospital in Broomfield.
The collection drive will run from January 23 through February 6, with collection boxes placed around the school for easy participation. Requested items include Hot Wheels, sketch pads, coloring books, colored pencils, crayons, markers, sticker books, playing cards, puzzles with 100 pieces or fewer, and new small stuffed animals.
Thank you for your willingness to support others—your generosity makes a meaningful difference.
HHH Student Leadership Club

Our next Lost and Found event of the year will take place during the Winter Parent Teacher Conferences on february 3rd, February 5th and february 11th.
Additional Lost and Found pick up events will occur during the following times:
- Spring Choir Concert
- Highlands Music Fest
- Field Day
- End of the Year Picnic
After each of these events the lost and found items will be donated. Please be sure to stop by and pick up any missing items.
Health Room Clothing Donations Needed

Our Health Room is running low on spare clothing and is looking for donations to support students throughout the school day. We are specifically in need of pants and leggings in size 8 and up.
We gladly accept gently used or new items, and donations can be dropped off at the front office. Thank you for helping us ensure our students are comfortable and ready to learn!
Parking Reminders
We kindly remind families to please use only designated parking spaces when visiting our school.
Handicap parking spaces are reserved for individuals with a valid placard or license plate and should only be used by those who are authorized to do so.
The south parking lot is staff parking and bus pick up/drop off area. Cars should not be using this area for drop off or pick up. Bus visibility is limited and best practice is for families to walk their students and follow the sidewalks to get on campus for safety purposes.
The east parking lot is the location of the hug and go lane, preschool entry, and special needs drop off. Please only park in designated areas and only use the hug and go lane for a quick drop off. The area in front of door #2 is not a hug and go lane. Children should walk to their assigned doors after being dropped off. In instances when students are not able to get to their assigned doors, students will line up out front to wait until the outside supervising adult can bring them in. Students may not enter early through door #1 due to staff not being in the rooms until after 9:05. Any child arriving after 9:05 will need to be brought in by the adult guardian and signed in for proper attendance recording.
Following parking guidelines helps keep our school community safe, accessible, and respectful of everyone’s needs. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping make arrival and dismissal smoother for all!

Fee Reminders
Material Fees
These fees directly support various student activities and resources at our school, enriching their educational experience.
In past years, these funds have contributed to our Exploratorium activities, grade-level educational magazines, science projects, and other specialized programs that benefit all students. We appreciate your support in making these valuable resources and activities possible. Payment can be made in Infinite Campus. Thank you to those who have already paid these fees.
iPad Insurance Fees
If you made a partial payment on your student’s iPad insurance fees, please be sure to complete your purchase. Insurance helps to offset costs associated with unintentional damage only when it is paid in full. If you would like to purchase insurance for your student’s iPad, please contact the front office.

Every day counts when it comes to learning! Consistent attendance helps students build strong routines, stay connected with their classmates, and keep up with important lessons. Please make sure your child arrives on time each morning and stays for the full day whenever possible.
If your child will be absent, remember to call or email the attendance office at 303-702-8040 or [email protected] to let us know the reason and length of absence. Together, we can help every student succeed one day at a time!

We have been having unseasonably warm weather but the cold is just around the corner. Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately for the sudden changes of warm to cold that happen in the fall. For those who are new, and a reminder to our community, we have included our weather policy which is in our Highlands Parent Code of Conduct.
“Recess is an integral part of the school day and all students will be expected to participate. Students should wear clothing and shoes appropriate for outside play. Students can be excused from recess with a doctor’s note.
Children will go outside for recess unless there is excessive precipitation, lightning or if the temperature falls below 15 degrees (temperature + wind chill)”

As we move into the fall and winter months, we encourage all families to periodically review our inclement weather protocols and shortened day schedules on the district website .
Student Fees & Payments

You can pay school fees through either Revtrak or Infinite Campus.
- Revtrak: For field trips, class shirts, and special classroom supplies (like music recorders).
- Infinite Campus: For materials fees, iPad insurance, and preschool tuition.
