Smooth Dismissal: Parent Responsibility for Consistent Pick-Up

Parent responsibility is key to maintaining pick-up consistency.  When students know where to go, who will pick them up, and what the backup plan is, they are better prepared for any situation. Sticking to a consistent established plan is crucial to minimizing confusion and stress.

To ensure a smooth and stress-free dismissal process, we kindly request that parents discuss end-of-day pick-up plans with their children daily. Students should know how they are getting home before coming to school.  Clear communication helps students feel more confident and calm, especially if there are any delays.

We understand that true emergencies can arise. In such cases, please call the front office at (303) 702 – 8040 as early as possible if there is a change in the pick-up plan.  We want to ensure that all emergency changes are communicated effectively and in a timely manner and appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Non-emergency changes should be kept to a minimum and communicated early in the day and no later than 3pm.  We can not guarantee calls made after three will give the office enough time to communicate those changes with students and staff.

Dear Highlands Elementary Families,

I hope this message finds you well as we embark on this new school year! My name is Sanaa Alyemeni, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Community Schools Program Manager here at Highlands. In addition to Hawks Nest, part of my role is to ensure that our after-school programs offer a wide variety of enriching experiences that engage your children in fun, educational, and skill-building activities.

I am working on a lineup of after-school classes this year ranging from multi-week programs like our upcoming Soccer Skills and Drills series to one-day Fan Club / interest groups. There will be something for everyone!

Starting in September, we will kick off with a Soccer Skills and Drills series coached by our verified vendor, Skyhawks. This program is perfect for beginner players who want to learn the essentials and practice their skills. In October, Skyhawks will be coaching a Basketball Skills and Drills series tailored to help young athletes build a strong foundation in the sport. See flyers for dates and times.

*Logistics on snacks, getting to class, and pick up locations will all be emailed to families who enroll their child in one of our enrichment classes.*

I am here to assist you with any questions you may have. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email ([email protected]) or phone. I look forward to seeing your children thrive in our after-school programs and making this a fantastic year filled with joyful memories.

Best regards,

Sanaa Alyemeni
Community Schools Program Manager

Gifted and Talented Referrals

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic and/or talent areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
