Second graders are working on a unit all about plant adventures! We started our journey with a field trip to Growing Gardens, where we got to learn all about pollination, vermicomposting, and ecosystems. Now we are exploring seeds on the move, and experimenting to see how different kinds of seeds spread and grow.

Dear Parents,

Don’t forget about our upcoming Halloween parade!  It will begin on 10/31 at 9:15.  Students will parade (outside) around the perimeter of the school.

For Kindergarten and 1st grade, the Halloween activities will take place in the morning while 2nd grade through 5th grade will hold their activities at the end of the day. Teachers will coordinate the specific time to parents soon. As a reminder, all food brought to the event must be store-bought, in accordance with district policy, which will be strictly enforced this year.  During the parade, children are welcome to wear masks, but they will not be allowed to wear them during the school day. Additionally, no swords or weapons (of any kind) are permitted.

For classroom parties, we kindly ask that the number of parents hosting be limited, and all individuals must remain in the line of sight of the classroom teachers at all times. Thank you for helping us ensure a fun and safe event!

HHH Food Drive

Hello Highland Families!

Our HHH Student Leadership Club is once again collecting canned food to help support our local Erie Uplink Tiger Packs Program. This program provides basic goods to students in the Erie community. Every year we look forward to our partnership with them to help support students across the area. We are asking families to donate ONLY the following canned goods:

-canned soup

-SpaghettiOs

Students can bring in items and drop them in one of the boxes, outside their classroom, labeled HHH Food Drive. Students can start brining in donated food now. The drive officially begins November 1 and will end November 15. Thank you for your support!

The cold weather is just around the corner. Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately for the sudden changes of warm to cold that happen in the fall. For those who are new, and a reminder to our community, we have included our weather policy which is in our Highlands Parent Code of Conduct.

Recess is an integral part of the school day and all students will be expected to participate.  Students should wear clothing and shoes appropriate for outside play.  Students can be excused from recess with a doctor’s note.

Children will go outside for recess unless there is excessive precipitation, lightning or if the temperature falls below 15 degrees (temperature + wind chill).

Material Fees:

This is a reminder that a ten-dollar materials fee has been assigned to all students at the beginning of the school year. These fees directly support various student activities and resources at our school, enriching their educational experience.

In past years, these funds have contributed to our Exploratorium activities, grade-level educational magazines, science projects, and other specialized programs that benefit all students. We appreciate your support in making these valuable resources and activities possible.  Payment can be made in Infinite Campus.  Thank you to those who have already paid these fees.

Student Device Policy

To maintain a focused and secure learning environment, students are required to turn off personal phones during the school hours.  These devices should be stored securely in a designated area, such as their backpacks. Watches may remain on their wrists while on silent and can not be used for communication during the school day. If students choose not to follow these guidelines, the following warning system will be implemented:

Warning System:

  1. First: A verbal warning will be given directly to the students
  2. Second: A phone call will be made to the student’s parents/guardians
  3. Third: The student’s device will need to stay in their backpack during the school day.

If a student needs to contact their parents, they may go to the office to make the call.  Our school has a health clerk on staff to assist with any issues related to health, whether a student is feeling unwell or injured. Parents are always welcome to contact the school office.

These procedures are in place to ensure the safety and security of our school community in a timely manner.
