Gifted and Talented Referrals
Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic and/or talent areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress. In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.
Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.
The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
Please note: All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT Screener this fall. You do not need to submit a referral for your 2nd grade child.

Reminder: USB-C Headphones or Adapter
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As included in the district-approved school supply list for grades K–5, students are asked to bring a pair of USB-C headphones to school. These are helpful for testing and other important curricular activities throughout the year. If you haven’t already, please send your child to school with a pair of USB-C headphones.
If your child already has headphones that are not USB-C compatible, please consider sending a USB-C adapter so they can use them at school.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay prepared and ready to learn!

LET’S GO THE DISTANCE THIS YEAR AROUND THE WORLD!
Lace up those sneakers! Our Around the World Fun Run is coming soon, and we can’t wait to see our students in action. This year’s theme will take runners on a journey across the earth, with fun stations representing different areas around the globe. From hopping across Australia to sliding
through the Arctic, each lap is a new adventure!
When: Friday, September 26, 2025
Where: Highlands Elementary School Field

This event is the biggest PTO fundraiser of the year, helping to raise money for school projects, classroom technology, field trips, etc. Students will be collecting pledges from family and friends- every dollar counts toward
making our school even better!
How You Can Help:
– Sponsor a student by making a pledge
– Volunteer! We will need help setting up and taking down stations

Choir
All fourth and fifth grade students are invited to join the Highlands Elementary Choir for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a non-auditioned choir and ALL are encouraged to join. Performing in a choir provides students with an amazing opportunity to be part of a group that works together to rehearse, create and perform music together. Rehearsals are on Thursday mornings from 8-9 am beginning on 9/11.
Here is the sign up doc. Forms are due back to Mrs. O by 9/3. Questions? Email Mrs. O at [email protected]

Leadership St. Vrain (LSV)
We have now opened applications for the 2025-2026 cohort of Leadership St. Vrain. We need at least two members of our community to represent our school on this important parent committee, and personally invite you to apply. We’re looking for leaders in our community who will provide valuable feedback regarding district operations. Spanish interpretation is provided at each meeting.
If you’re interested please let Principal Ryan Ball know and it is important that you complete an application no later than September 5.

Behavioral Code of Conduct
Thank you for your partnership and supporting the academic growth, safety, and well-being of our students. Every year, St. Vrain Valley Schools prints an up-to-date version of the Code of Conduct for students and families to review. This important document guides students and school staff on what expectations for school conduct and the consequences for behaviors that fall outside of those expectations. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document.
To this end, please click here to access an electronic version of the Code of Conduct for the current school year. After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book. To sign your electronic acknowledgement, please follow the steps described here.
Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at [contact information].
Sincerely,
Principal Ryan Ball

ATTENDANCE
School attendance is the foundation to a successful family partnership that ensures the ongoing academic growth and advancement of your student.
Missing 10%, or 2 days a month, over the course of the school year, can affect a student’s academic success and make it harder to: gain early reading and math skills, build relationships and develop good attendance habits.
Please provide the school with a note from the doctor, orthodontist, dentist, therapist, or any appointment each time you go. This will ensure that your child’s attendance is documented and marked as Dr. excused rather than simply absent.
To report an absence please email Tanya Vigil or call the front office at 303-702-8040.
Community Schools
Hi Highlands Families,
We have our first line-up of after school extracurricular activities open for registrations. From Flag football to Sciencepalooza we have put together clubs, sports, and classes that are sure to engage your kids in some after school fun, learning, and team building. Space is limited for each of these classes so I encourage you to get signed up this weekend. Please reach out to me with any questions [email protected] or 303-702-8040
If you’re new to our enrichment programs, these meet directly after school which means as parents you get an extra hour before having to pick up your kiddos. Most classes typically dismiss at 4:45pm, but please read the class details when registering.

More information for each of these class options can be found by following this link.
Classes that meet on Tuesdays: Flag Football, Soccer, and Chess
Classes that meet on Wednesdays: Chess, and Art Club
Classes that meet on Thursdays: Hip Hop
