Lots of fun learning is happening at Highlands! Third grade is working on narrative writing and 4th grade is writing biographies. Our Vex teams are working hard on an upcoming competition and 2nd grade is learning to work together and communicating ideas through writing. We hope you stop and check out all the displays during conference week!

Office Notes: As the weather is cooling, please make sure your students have appropriate gear for the changing weather. This time of year we see warm, cold and windy all in the same day. We appreciate families being proactive.
Picture Day Re-takes are on October 26th. If you missed it or need re-takes please look for fliers in next week folders!
Preschool Fees – Are due the first of each month through May. Please pay through Infinite Campus or, if necessary, by check made out to Highlands Elementary. Thank you
Material Fees – The $10.00 fee has been added to Infinite Campus (IC). They cover school-specific, hard-to find expendable items and non-standard classroom materials associated with classroom learning and projects.
PTO NEWS
20% of the sales from BOTH Cristos Coffee locations on October 17th will be donated to the Highlands Elementary PTO. Visit Cristos Coffee at 149 South Briggs Street in Erie from 6 am – 5 pm or at 2052 Broadway in Boulder from 7 am – 7 pm.
The Trunk or Treat event will be held in the school parking lot at 5:00 pm on October 27th. **We are in need of volunteers to decorate their trunks and hand out candy to students and their families. **(Candy will be provided). There will be a prize for the best decorated trunk!

Guidelines:
- Decorate your trunk with a theme of your choosing. It needs to follow school policies- no scary/violent/demonic decorations- keep it kid-friendly!
- Costumes are encouraged!
- Cars must be parked and turned off for the duration of the event. No electricity will be provided.
- Candy & treats will be provided in buckets for you to pass out. You may only hand out the candy we provide.
- Set up begins at 4:00 pm. Please arrive on time. Children of all volunteers will get to trick or treat through the event before it begins at 5:00 pm.
- Vehicles may not be left unattended so please plan to make sure there is always someone at the car.
- You are responsible for the set up and complete clean up of your area.
- If you are a business participating, you are welcome to hang signage for your business on your trunk.

St. Vrain Preschool Literacy Night with Author Rosemary Wells
Preschool families in St. Vrain Valley Schools are invited to a special literacy night featuring renowned author Rosemary Wells on October 17 from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the Innovation Center of St. Vrain Valley Schools. Rosemary Wells, celebrated for her beloved characters like Max & Ruby, Noisy Nora, and Yoko, will read her new book “If You Believe in Me,” which preschoolers have received as part of our early reading initiative. Bring your copies for Rosemary Wells to sign, and the first 100 students without a book will receive one at no cost.
